Aileen Mathieson earned Insurance Asset Risk's Chief Investment Officer of the Year award by turning the investment function at Aspen Insurance into a core driver of growth and shareholder value.
Her strategic leadership delivered top-quartile performance and helped make Aspen's oversubscribed New York Stock Exchange IPO possible, alongside $146m in Capital Markets fee generation.
Since 2021, she executed a disciplined, multi-year plan that more than doubled annualised investment income (from $148m to $320m) while strengthening governance and risk management across a $8bn portfolio and multiple regulatory regimes.
She also built the platform for sustained success: assembling a high-performing team of 13, launching Aspen's first investments graduate programme, and lifting investment operations to full SOX compliance - enabling faster, more precise capital deployment.
Beyond returns, Mathieson set a higher bar for responsible investing by embedding ESG and social impact into P&C investment strategy, including Aspen's role as a cornerstone investor in Big Issue Invest Fund IV, while championing inclusion and industry leadership.
