Aspen's insurance investment team has won the Investment team of the year by combining best-in-class performance with disciplined risk management at scale.
From 2021 to Q3 2025 (annualised), they doubled investment income from $148m to $320m, lifted book yield by 210bps, and improved total return by 521bps, while maintaining a high-quality AA- rated fixed income core.
This consistency provided a stable earnings base through major corporate milestones in 2025, including a successful IPO and subsequent acquisition, demonstrating clear, measurable impact on valuation and financial strength.
They matched performance with innovation and operational mastery. Managing $8bn across seven entities and regulatory regimes, they deployed advanced structures ( SMAs, rated notes, SPVs, ETFs), built bespoke benchmarks for restricted portfolios, and used liquidity tools such as repo to reduce cash drag.
The team also led market-credible responsible investment practices, creating a proprietary ESG scorecard aligned to UN SDGs/PAIs, actively challenging manager outcomes, and sustaining 10–12% of the portfolio in sustainable investments - while directly supporting Aspen's capital-light model and robust oversight for $1.4bn of off-balance-sheet AUM.
