Dai-ichi Life invests JPY 200m in space worker robot start-up

Dai-ichi Life has invested JPY 200m ($1.9m) in GITAI Japan, a Japanese start-up that will engage in the R&D and production of space worker robots.

GITAI is looking to create robots that can work on space stations, lunar exploration and lunar base construction. Its mission is to reduce space labour costs by providing low-cost, reliable working measures, and it will conduct a technical demonstration for versatile tasks on the International Space Station later in 2021.

The capital will be used to support these initiatives, and Dai-ichi Life said it “expects this investment will realise a high level of returns as well as economic growth (social impact) through the promotion of space development”.
