Chinese insurance investor body forms international advisory committee

The Insurance Asset Management Association of China (IAMAC) has established an international expert advisory committee to enhance the internationalisation of China’s insurance asset management industry.

IAMAC was established in September 2014 as a national self-regulatory organization of Chinese insurance asset management industry.

The committee aims to help strengthen China’s asset management industry through information exchange on areas including, governance, risk management, developing staff and new technology.

The committee will foster relationships between local and international companies. It is composed of 26 experts from the US, France, Switzerland, the UK, Germany and Australia.

Nasreen Kasenally, chief risk officer at UBS Asset Management, was elected chairman.

The committee also counts three co-chairs:

• Alexandra Auer, chief operational officer at Allianz Asset Management
• Ligia Torres, chief executive officer Asia Pacific at BNP Paribas Asset management
• James Peagam, head of North American institutional & global insurance solutions at JP Morgan Asset Management

IAMAC didn’t release the names of the individual committee members, but did name the companies to which they are affiliated.

Insurance Asset Risk has learnt, however, that the following individuals are on the committee: Xavier Veyry chief executive officer of AXA China; Lisa Longino senior managing director and head of insurance asset management at MetLife; Thomas Cheong, president for Asia at Principal Financial Group; and Virginie Maisonneuve, chief investment officer at Eastspring Investments.

Other committee members come from the following companies: Aberdeen Standard Investment, Security Capital Investment, Oriental Huili Asset Management, Yingjiehua Investment Company, BlackRock, CB Richard Ellis (CBRE) Global Investment, Tianli Investment Company, Conley Asia Pacific, DWS, KKR Investment Group, Macquarie Group, Swiss Hezhong Group, Pinhao Investment Management Asia, Queensland Investment Company, Schroder, US North America Trust Management, and Pilot Investment Hong Kong.

This follows on a Memorandum of Understanding signed in october last year, between IAMAC and the UK’s Investment Association laying the foundation of member exchange and a cooperation platform.
