ING IM hires Avoca's convertible bond duo

ING Investment Managements has recruited Tarek Saber and Jasper Van Ingen to lead its convertible bonds investment team.

Both were managers of the Avoca Convertible Select Global Fund that opened in April 2012. Saber has joined as investment team manager and Van Ingen as senior portfolio manager. They are based in London.

"In the current investment environment we expect investors to focus on yield, lower volatility and limited draw down risk. Convertible bonds fit very well within this environment and provide an excellent complementary strategy to our product suite," said Hans Stoter, chief investment officer at ING IM.

Prior to joining Avoca, Saber was at Dutch government pension fund ABP/APG, where he set up a strategy investing in corporate bonds and equity-linked instruments. He was also global head of convertible bonds at HSBC Investment Bank and head of European convertible bonds at Schroders Securities.

Van Ingen worked with Saber at APG for six years and was previously a portfolio manager at APG's $5bn hedge fund investment department.

Investment firm KKR acquired Dublin-based Avoca Capital last year, for an undisclosed sum.
