Sun Life Financial appoints Randy Brown as CIO

Randy Brown has been appointed chief investment officer of Sun Life Financial, overseeing the investment operations of Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada and its general account, which had invested assets of approximately C$135bn (US$96bn) at 30 September 2015.

Brown will assume the CIO responsibilities from Steve Peacher, who will now focus wholly on his role as president of Sun Life Investment Management.

Since 2007, Brown has held several senior roles at Deutsche Asset and Wealth Management, most recently as global head of insurance and pension solutions and as head of asset and wealth management for the UK region.

Sun Life Investment Management, launched in April 2014, comprises the investment operations of Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada, Sun Life Investment Management Inc, Ryan Labs Asset Management, Prime Advisors and Bentall Kennedy Group.

Brown will join Sun Life's investment and credit risk committee and will be a member of the Sun Life Investment Management executive team. He will be based in Wellesley Hills, Massachusetts, and will report to Peacher.

Brown holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Engineering degrees, as well as an MBA, from Cornell University.
